Trump hosts Xi at White House; no breakthroughs on AI, trade, Taiwan, or Iran
US President Donald Trump hosted Chinese leader Xi Jinping at the White House on September 24 for bilateral talks that produced no visible breakthroughs on AI, trade, Taiwan, or the war with Iran. Trump said the two leaders "never got along better" and that he would raise the "Graham Law" on Russia sanctions with Xi; Xi framed the relationship in terms of responsible major-country cooperation and avoiding confrontation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Trump to use the meeting to press Xi to influence Vladimir Putin on the war in Ukraine.
