Moscow Oil Refinery
The Moscow Oil Refinery (MNПЗ) is one of the oldest and largest oil refineries in Russia, located in Kapotnya in the south-east of Moscow. It is owned by Gazprom Neft, the oil arm of the Gazprom group. The plant supplies fuel to the Moscow region and is a key supplier of petroleum products in central Russia. It was built in the 1930s and played a significant role during World War II, producing aviation fuel for the Soviet war effort.

Massive drone attack hits Moscow and Moscow Oblast overnight, setting Moscow oil refinery ablaze
On the night of 19–20 September 2025, Moscow and Moscow Oblast were subjected to a massive drone attack. A fire broke out at the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya, the Sofyino logistics and warehouse complex was hit, and several apartment buildings were struck. Russian officials reported at least two people killed and six injured across the region, and flight restrictions were imposed at Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports.
