Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA)
The Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) is the temporary governing body of Kyiv, established in February 2022 after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is headed by a head appointed by decree of the President of Ukraine, who concurrently serves as head of the Kyiv Oblast State Administration. The KMVA coordinates the capital's defence, the operation of critical infrastructure and municipal services during wartime, and regularly reports on the consequences of missile strikes and air-raid alerts.

Russian drone strike on Kyiv hits high-rise, transport facility and parked cars overnight
Russia struck Kyiv with drones overnight on 20–21 October, hitting a 24-storey residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district at the 20th-floor level, a transport infrastructure object in the Solomianskyi district, and parked cars in the Desnianskyi district. Fires broke out at all three sites, emergency power outages were introduced in the Sviatoshynskyi district and parts of Kyiv Oblast, and casualties were reported in the Sviatoshynskyi building strike. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko and the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) reported the consequences via Telegram. The attack came a day after a separate Russian strike on Kyiv on 20 October killed one person and injured 21.

Russia hits Kyiv energy facility and medical buildings in large drone attack, one killed in city
On 20 October 2026, Russia struck Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast with a large overnight barrage of strike drones, including jet-powered Shaheds. On the evening of October 13, Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv, hitting the TEC-4 (CHPP-4) thermal power plant and a nine-story residential building in the Desnianskyi district. Ukrainian officials said international partners did not provide advance warning through the usual intelligence-sharing channels, and that Ukrainian air defence detected the missiles only as they were approaching the capital. It was the second consecutive night Kyiv was hit by Russian ballistic missiles without a partner warning.

On the morning of 4 October, a Russian drone struck the Pivnichnyi (Northern) Bridge in Kyiv for the second consecutive day, damaging the roadway and injuring two people. The strike was part of an overnight attack in which Russia launched 135 strike drones at Ukraine, including 52 jet-powered Shaheds. Ukrainian air defence shot down or suppressed 123 of the drones. The attack coincided with a visit to Kyiv by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who announced new German military and energy-sector aid for Ukraine.
