What happened
On 26 September and during the night of 27 September, units of Ukraine's Defense Forces struck a series of Russian military targets in temporarily occupied Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which reported the strikes on its Facebook page.
In occupied Donetsk city, a site used for the storage, preparation and launch of Russian strike drones was struck. In Luhansk Oblast, two ammunition depots were hit in Krepenske and Luhansk city, and a materiel and technical supply warehouse was hit in Rovenky. In Donetsk Oblast, a fuel and lubricants warehouse was hit in Novoamvrosiivske.
The General Staff said that hitting the storage, preparation and launch sites for strike drones is one of the priority directions of combat work of Ukraine's Defense Forces and that such sites are being systematically struck to reduce the Russian army's ability to use strike drone systems. It added that work on key Russian military targets continues and that "there is more to come."
Background
President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier that Russia used more than 2,200 strike drones, around 1,650 aerial bombs and 38 missiles of various types against Ukraine over the previous week, underscoring the scale of drone strikes that the Donetsk facility is tied to. The Telegram channel Exilenova+ reported overnight on 27 September that strikes were hitting the area of the former Luhansk border detachment in occupied Luhansk city and published video of explosions there.
