WSJ: Putin proposes Trump–Xi–Putin trilateral on Ukraine, without Kyiv
The Wall Street Journal reported that Vladimir Putin proposed holding a trilateral summit with US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Shenzhen on November 18–19 to discuss ending the war in Ukraine on terms favorable to Moscow. The proposal, raised during Putin's October 9 phone call with Trump, does not include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed discussions are ongoing but said there is no clear understanding yet of the meeting or its agenda. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged on October 19 in Samarkand that talks had taken place but said no final decision has been made. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha rejected the format, saying it would only encourage Putin to continue the war.
