Russia launches 165-drone overnight attack on Ukraine; casualties reported in Kyiv and Kharkiv
In the night of 28 September 2026, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 165 strike drones, including 79 jet-powered Shahed variants, Gerbera drones and Parodia decoy drones launched from multiple Russian airfields and occupied territory. Ukrainian air defense shot down or suppressed 112 of them by 07:00, but hits were recorded at 14 locations. Strikes killed two people and wounded about ten at the Stolichnyi market near Kyiv, injured three minors in Kyiv districts, and left at least 22 people injured, including eight children, in Kharkiv after a guided aerial bomb hit.
