Ukraine says Russia refused ceasefire to evacuate civilians from occupied Oleshky amid humanitarian crisis
Ukraine proposed a temporary ceasefire to evacuate civilians from Russian-occupied Oleshky in Kherson Oblast via a land corridor in a single day, but Russia rejected the proposal. No food has reached the town since late May, and officials and residents describe a humanitarian crisis with shortages of food, water, medicine and electricity, and cases of starvation. Ukrainian and international officials have appealed to the UN, ICRC, the Council of Europe and Pope Leo XIV for help.
