In a DW interview aired on 12 September 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 leaders' summit in Miami in December if Putin attends. The Kremlin said no decision has yet been made on Putin's participation, and spokesman Dmitry Peskov renewed Moscow's invitation for Zelensky to come to the Russian capital instead. Speaking at the BRICS summit in New Delhi and to Interfax, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called that invitation a "huge gesture of goodwill" and said Russia will not halt its military operation during any period of negotiations.
