The UN verified 15,280 civilian casualties in Ukraine in the first eight months of 2026, a 55% increase over 2025
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, told the Human Rights Council in Geneva on 2 October that the UN had verified 15,280 civilian deaths and injuries in Ukraine in the first eight months of 2026. This represents a 55% increase over the same period in 2025 and an average of more than 400 casualties per week, with July 2026 marking the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since May 2022.
