Zelensky and Trump meet in New York: energy ceasefire, Patriot licences, and Xi's role on the table
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly session in New York on 22 September. They discussed a mutual energy ceasefire, possible licences for Ukrainian production of Patriot air defence systems, the use of Starlink over Russia, a potential three-way Zelensky–Trump–Putin meeting, and Zelensky's proposal to draw Chinese leader Xi Jinping into efforts to end the war. Zelensky described the roughly hour-long meeting as "positive and productive"; Trump said he was ready to meet Putin at the G20 summit in Miami on 14–15 December and announced readiness to apply the newly signed "Graham Law" sanctions instrument.
