Rinat Akhmetov
Rinat Akhmetov is a Ukrainian businessman, founder and largest shareholder of the industrial and financial group Metinvest and the energy company DTEK. Widely regarded as the wealthiest person in Ukraine, his assets are concentrated mainly in metallurgy, coal mining, and electricity generation. He is known for his charitable activities through the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

Russian strikes idle three plants that produced 90% of Ukraine's steel
Russian ballistic missile strikes in early September knocked out three major Ukrainian metallurgical plants — Zaporizhstal, Kametstal and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih — which together had accounted for about 90% of Ukraine's steel output. The attacks killed 17 workers and halted production at facilities employing more than 15,000 people. Metinvest's Oleksandr Vodoviz said Ukraine "effectively no longer has a steel industry."

U.S. DFC approves €85 million loan to DTEK for battery storage expansion in Ukraine
The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has approved an €85 million (approximately $97.5 million) loan to Ukrainian energy company DTEK to expand battery energy storage systems in Ukraine. The loan is part of a broader DFC investment package of more than $8 billion covering projects in Ukraine, Jordan, and several African countries, and is the largest DFC financing in Ukraine's energy sector since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
