President of Ukraine
Head of state of Ukraine. The president is the guarantor of state sovereignty and acts on behalf of the country, is elected by citizens for a five-year term, and may not hold the office for more than two consecutive terms. Executive power formally rests with the government, but the president sets policy in national security and defence, appoints the prime minister with parliamentary consent, and serves as Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
