Russian drones hit Kyiv's Pivdennyi Bridge for fourth time in 24 hours, transport across capital paralyzed
Russian drone strikes hit Kyiv's Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge early on October 2, 2026, the fourth strike on the bridge in roughly 24 hours, forcing its full closure and restrictions on the Paton and Metro bridges. The combined closures caused a major transport collapse across the capital, with rerouted buses, jammed traffic and sharp rises in taxi fares. A residential high-rise in the Darnytskyi district was also struck overnight, killing one person and injuring two others. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko convened an emergency meeting of the Kyiv City Defense Council, and authorities introduced new air-raid restrictions on bridge traffic.
