Russian strikes shut down three plants producing 90% of Ukraine's steel
Russian ballistic missiles in August and September disabled three major Ukrainian metallurgical plants — Zaporizhstal and Kametstal (both Metinvest) and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih — that together accounted for about 90% of Ukraine's steel output. At least 17 workers were killed and more than 15,000 jobs are at the affected sites. Metinvest's Oleksandr Vodoviz said Ukraine effectively no longer has a steel industry, and Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyy warned of roughly $1.5 billion in lost tax revenue.
