Ukraine's prosecutor general resigns after anti-corruption operation exposes alleged call-centre protection racket inside his office
On 7 September 2026, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko submitted his resignation after anti-corruption investigators searched his office and exposed a network inside the Office of the Prosecutor General (OGP) accused of taking monthly payments from fraudulent call centres. According to President Zelensky, he personally asked Kravchenko to resign after a meeting at the Office of the President that same day. The investigation, codenamed "Carthage," has led to the detention of senior OGP official Serhiy Kropyva and several associates, with courts setting bail totals exceeding 140 million hryvnia. Kravchenko denies involvement and describes the resignation as a conscious "political decision."
