Two Kyiv shootouts between SBU and military intelligence leave three HUR fighters wounded, spark criminal cases
Two armed clashes broke out in Kyiv's Dnipro district on the night of September 1 and the morning of September 2, 2026, involving SBU officers and servicemen of Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) near the apartment of Russian Volunteer Corps deputy commander Stepan Kaplunov. Three HUR fighters were wounded. Both sides opened criminal proceedings; one SBU employee and one HUR serviceman were served suspicion notices. President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the episode as "absolutely shameful," dismissed an SBU department chief, and announced the firing of deputy heads of both services. A separate row erupted over alleged leaks of SBU officers' personal data to a sanctioned former MP, which the State Bureau of Investigation denies.
