Zelensky begins New York UN trip with US senators meeting, Trump talks ahead
President Volodymyr Zelensky opened his visit to New York for the 81st UN General Assembly with a meeting with US senators, thanking them for bipartisan support of Ukraine and the Lindsey Graham sanctions bill, and briefing them on de-escalation proposals he plans to raise with Donald Trump. The senators and Zelensky discussed Ukraine's need for ballistic-missile interceptors, Patriot air defense, and challenges ahead of winter, and agreed their teams would coordinate on the sanctions track. Zelensky and Trump are scheduled to meet on 22 September at 20:15 Kyiv time, with energy ceasefire, air defense and possible domestic Patriot missile production on the agenda.
