A Politico investigation based on a Code for Africa report found that Russia-linked mercenary recruitment operations use Western advertising, AI, and hosting technologies from companies including Meta and Google to recruit foreigners for the war against Ukraine. Researchers identified 89 websites, seven social media accounts and 39 messenger channels used in the operations, with new assets appearing daily. Google disputed specific claims in the report, saying it is 'actively reviewing' the facts.
