Ukrainian churches appeal to Pope Leo XIV over alleged starvation in occupied Oleshky
The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations has appealed to Pope Leo XIV, UN member states, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other religious and rights bodies to prevent starvation among residents of Russian-occupied Oleshky in Kherson Oblast and to enable a humanitarian mission and evacuation. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Ukraine will raise the issue at the UN General Assembly High-Level Week and discuss humanitarian access with ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger. Estimates of the remaining civilian population differ sharply between the Council of Churches and the Foreign Ministry.
