US envoys to present new peace proposals in Miami as Rubio says diplomacy is at a deadlock
US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to meet Ukrainian negotiators and European officials in Miami on October 9-10 to present updated proposals for ending the war with Russia. The meetings come days after Secretary of State Marco Rubio publicly described the diplomatic process as "unattainable," drawing a sharp rebuke from President Volodymyr Zelensky, and the envoys may travel to Moscow later in October. Ukraine has agreed to a proposed partial ceasefire on energy and grain infrastructure; Russia has not.
