Maia Sandu is a Moldovan politician and leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS). She has served as President of Moldova since December 2020, after winning the second round of the presidential election that year. She is known for her pro-European stance and her push for Moldova's EU integration, including the granting of EU candidate status.

Ukraine and Moldova sign five-year military-technical cooperation agreement
Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan visited Kyiv on 26 October with three ministers. Ukraine and Moldova signed a five-year military-technical cooperation agreement and agreed to revive the Odesa Triangle and their intergovernmental trade and economic commission.

Russian drones strike Kyiv-Warsaw train and infrastructure near Polish border, prompting Polish emergency meeting
On the morning of September 13, 2026, Russian drones struck infrastructure near the Yahodyn-Dorohusk international border crossing on the Ukraine-Poland border in Volyn Oblast, damaging a gas station, hitting a truck on the Polish side, and striking the locomotive of a Kyiv-Warsaw passenger train about two kilometers from the Polish border.
