Andrius Kubilius is a Lithuanian politician who served as Prime Minister of Lithuania from 2008 to 2012 and led the Homeland Union – Christian Democrats. Since November 2023 he has served as European Commissioner for Defence and Space in Ursula von der Leyen's European Commission.

Trump announces 'energy ceasefire' between Russia and Ukraine; Zelensky says it was news to him
On 11 October, US President Donald Trump announced what he called an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine, saying both sides had agreed and that it would take effect immediately. A White House official told Axios the proposal means each side would stop attacks on the other's oil refineries and could later extend to power stations and energy grids. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the announcement was news to him but that Ukraine is ready to pursue an energy ceasefire and is awaiting US details. Russian strikes hit a Kyiv energy facility roughly an hour before Trump's statement and a Kharkiv thermal power plant shortly after. US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner postponed their planned trip to Moscow.
