Trump announces six-month deal with Putin for Russian diesel to US and global markets
On 9 October, US President Donald Trump announced he had reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russian diesel fuel supplies to American and global markets, accompanied by a temporary easing of US sanctions on Russian fuel exports. The six-month deal runs until 7 April 2027 and ties additional volumes to Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the unilateral lifting of sanctions "unfair and dishonest," while the British defence secretary and Lithuania's prime minister publicly distanced themselves from the agreement.
