Trump suspends sanctions on Russian oil buyers two days before Graham law takes effect
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on 16 October suspending sanctions on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas, just two days before the bipartisan Graham sanctions law was due to take effect. The order came weeks after Trump lifted restrictions on Russian diesel-fuel sales agreed in an October phone call with Vladimir Putin, and triggered rare bipartisan criticism in Washington, including a public rebuke from Senator Ted Cruz.
