Russian guided bombs hit Zaporizhzhia apartment block; Zelenskyy links strike to US-Russia diesel deal
Russian forces struck a residential area in Zaporizhzhia with five guided aerial bombs on the morning of 10 October, partially destroying a five-story apartment building. The death toll climbed through the day as rescuers pulled survivors from the rubble, reaching at least 12 according to President Zelenskyy and as high as 17 in later reports, with dozens wounded. Zelenskyy framed the attack as Russia's "thank you" for the US lifting sanctions on Russian diesel exports, a day after President Trump announced a large-scale diesel deal with Moscow. October 11 was declared a day of mourning in Zaporizhzhia.
