US proposes reviving Russian gas transit through Ukraine as part of peace deal
The Trump administration is weighing the resumption of Russian gas transit through Ukraine to Europe as an element of a potential peace deal, according to reports. US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner raised the idea with President Volodymyr Zelensky and European officials, arguing that gas transit revenue could give Moscow an incentive to end the war. The proposal has drawn sharp criticism from European governments, particularly Germany, which before 2022 was the largest buyer of Russian gas.
