Witkoff and Kushner meet Putin at the Kremlin, then head to Kyiv with undisclosed US proposal
US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on the evening of September 5, after a 3.5-hour working lunch with Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev. Putin described the situation as "not simple" and thanked Trump, while Witkoff thanked Putin for a three-day pause on strikes against Kyiv and Moscow. The Kremlin restated its maximalist demands, and Trump said the envoys are carrying a new US proposal to end the war. The delegation is expected in Kyiv on September 6.
