Alexander Lukashenko
Alyaksandr Lukashenka is the president of Belarus, a position he has held since 1994, making him one of Europe's longest-serving leaders. He is associated with an authoritarian style of governance, tight control over state institutions, and successive elections that have drawn sustained international criticism over their conduct. He has maintained Belarus as a close political and military ally of Russia, and Belarus's territory has been used to support Russia's military operations against Ukraine since 2022.
