Shooting in Kyiv between SBU and military intelligence prompts dismissals and rival accounts
On 2 September, a shooting broke out in Kyiv's Berezniaky district between officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and fighters of the "Tymur" special unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence (HUR), linked to the disappearance of Stepan Kaplunov, deputy combat commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK). Three HUR servicemembers were wounded. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the incident "absolutely shameful," signed a decree dismissing Oleh Khramov from the post of head of the SBU Department of State Secrets Protection and Licensing, and announced the dismissal of deputy heads of both services. The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) opened proceedings and on 3 September Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko announced suspicion notices against one SBU employee and one HUR servicemember.
