NABU detains Prosecutor General's office official in "Operation Carthage"; prosecutors allege ties to Kravchenko
Ukraine's anti-corruption agencies NABU and SAP announced on 4 September "Operation Carthage," targeting a criminal organization allegedly led by Serhiy Kropyva, an official of the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG). On 6 September, the High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) placed Kropyva in custody with an alternative bail of 120 million UAH; prosecutors had requested 200 million. At the bail hearing, the SAP prosecutor read intercepted communications that, according to the investigation, show Kropyva acting as a "trusted person" of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko — coordinating repairs at Kravchenko's house in Kozyn, arranging a US visa for Kravchenko's wife, and organising his birthday trip to Madrid. Kravchenko publicly denied any involvement in covering illegal call centers, suspended Kropyva from duty, ordered his dismissal, and announced audits and polygraph testing of relevant OPG units.
