Geneva Conventions
The Geneva Conventions are a series of four international treaties concluded in Geneva in 1949 that set standards for the humane conduct of armed conflict and the protection of civilians. Three Additional Protocols were later adopted to supplement them. The conventions govern the treatment of the wounded, sick, shipwrecked, prisoners of war, and civilians, as well as the protection of medical and humanitarian personnel. Their observance is monitored by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
