Yukos
Yukos was a Russian oil company formed in 1993 through the privatisation of state assets and grew into the country's largest oil producer in the early 2000s. It was led by Mikhail Khodorkovsky until his arrest in 2003 on fraud and tax evasion charges, after which the company was dismantled through tax claims and forced into bankruptcy. Former shareholders pursued international arbitration against Russia and obtained substantial awards, which remain a focal point in debates over compensating Ukraine and the confiscation of Russian state assets.
