Workers' Party of Korea
The Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) is the ruling political party of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). Founded in 1949, it is the only legally permitted party in the country and serves as the leading organization of state power. The party's General Secretary holds the position of supreme leader of North Korea; Kim Jong Un has held the post since 2011. The WPK controls the government, the armed forces and state ideology, built around the Juche and Songun doctrines.
