Women's Tennis Association
The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) is the principal organising body of women's professional tennis. Founded in 1973 by Billie Jean King and a group of fellow professional players, it was established to secure equal prize money and a unified tour for women. The WTA operates the annual global circuit of tournaments, maintains the world ranking of professional women's players, and works alongside the four Grand Slam tournaments as a co-sanctioning body.
