German Chancellor Merz makes unannounced visit to Kyiv, announces €1bn military aid package
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on 4 October on an unannounced solidarity visit, accompanied by Economy Minister Katherina Reiche and ten business leaders from the defence and energy sectors. He is expected to announce a €1 billion military aid package, €350 million for energy infrastructure, delivery of thousands of interceptor drones, and a joint German-Ukrainian drone production deal, and to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky.
