Democratic Party

The US Democratic Party is one of the country's two major political parties, founded in 1828. It sits in the centre-left of American politics and is historically associated with a more active federal government, social welfare programmes and civil-rights protections. Its support is strongest among urban voters, organised labour and minority communities. Donald Trump, currently serving as President, is affiliated with the party after switching from the Republicans.
