UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP) is a self-governing Orthodox church body in Ukraine that, until 2022, remained canonically subordinate to the Russian Orthodox Church and the Patriarch of Moscow. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the church declared full self-governance in May 2022 and held a council in 2023 that amended its charter to remove references to Moscow, a change that was not recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The body has long been regarded as institutionally aligned with the Russian Orthodox Church, and the Russian–Ukrainian war brought repeated disputes over its loyalty, its property, and its continued canonical status.
