Union State

The Union State is an inter-state entity of Russia and Belarus, established by treaty in 1999. It is intended to coordinate foreign policy, defence, economics and a shared legal space between the two countries, though much of its integration agenda has gone unimplemented. Its supreme body is the Supreme State Council, chaired jointly by the presidents of Russia and Belarus, with a Council of Ministers as its executive organ and a State Secretary heading the Permanent Committee.
