UN Panel of Experts
The UN Panel of Experts on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is an independent expert body established by Security Council resolution 1718 (2006) to monitor the implementation of sanctions against North Korea. It is composed of several independent specialists appointed by the Council through the 1718 Sanctions Committee. The panel investigates areas such as North Korea's weapons programmes, illicit trade, and the overseas employment of North Korean workers, and reports annually to the Security Council with findings and recommendations. It does not maintain a permanent secretariat of its own and operates within the framework of the United Nations sanctions architecture.
