Wheat prices surge as Black Sea attacks deepen Ukraine's agricultural crisis
Wheat futures in Chicago rose 2.6% on 27 August to their highest level since July 2023, driven by Russian strikes on shipping in the Black Sea that have slashed Ukraine's grain exports. Ukrainian exporters face mounting financial losses and logistics costs, while the country's appeal to the UN Security Council has so far failed to halt the attacks.
