Unidentified drone enters Lithuanian airspace, prompts NATO scramble and alerts in Lithuania and Latvia
On the morning of 18 October, Lithuanian radars detected an unidentified aerial object, prompting NATO air-policing fighters from the Šiauliai airbase to be scrambled. A red-level air-raid alert was declared in the Šiauliai and Panevėžys counties, flights at Kaunas airport were banned from 07:05 to 08:00, and Latvia declared an air alert in its southern municipalities of Bauska, Aizkraukle and Ogre. The fighters were unable to shoot down the drone due to weather conditions that prevented visual identification, and debris was later found in the village of Juodžionys in Pasvalys district, with reports that a civilian car was damaged.
