On the night of September 4, 2026, Russia struck Ukraine with a Kh-31 guided aircraft missile and 121 drones, about half of them jet-powered. Ukrainian air defense reported shooting down 103 enemy aerial targets by 9:30 a.m. Hits and falling debris were recorded at 21 locations across multiple regions, killing civilians and damaging homes, vehicles, and industrial sites.

SBU detains Kharkiv couple suspected of spying for Russian military intelligence
Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) detained a married couple in Kharkiv on suspicion of transmitting information about Ukrainian forces, defensive positions, and energy infrastructure to Russian military intelligence (GRU). The husband, a mobilized soldier in a Territorial Defense brigade, allegedly tracked air defense, electronic warfare and fortifications in Kharkiv and marked power facilities on Google Maps, while his civilian wife reportedly gathered information on Ukrainian troop locations and eventually reported directly to a Russian handler. Both face state-treason charges under martial law and are in custody without bail.

Russian drone strikes Kherson transport stop, marshrutka and surrounding areas; multiple civilians injured
On September 4, a Russian drone struck a public transport stop and a marshrutka (route taxi) in the Central district of Kherson, injuring several civilians. Preliminary information from Kherson OVA head Oleksandr Prokudin indicated possible civilian deaths, with figures still being clarified. Additional Russian drone and shelling attacks across Kherson hromada, Beryslav and Darivska communities injured several other residents over the same period.

Massive overnight Ukrainian drone and sea-drone strike hits Moscow region and Sochi port
Russia's Defense Ministry said it intercepted 416 drones overnight on September 2–3, as uncrewed surface vessels struck the port of Sochi and set fire to a Russian ship. Ukraine's Naval Forces confirmed it hit the supply vessel Nefrit in Sochi. In the Moscow region, drone debris hit an apartment building in Kubinka, near a Russian airbase, and a factory in Bolshoye Bunykovo.

Serial production of over 5,000 long-range combat drones for Ukraine begins near Munich
A joint venture of German-American defense company Auterion and Ukrainian partner Airlogix has started serial production of more than 5,000 long-range kamikaze drones for Ukraine at a facility near Munich. The order, placed by the German government and worth around 300 million euros, is to be fulfilled by mid-2027. The drones come in two variants, including one with a range of up to 1,500 km, and use AI to resist enemy electronic countermeasures.

SBU says its officers were attacked during FSB-terror probe in Kyiv; attackers found to be members of Ukraine's Defense Forces
Ukraine's SBU security service says its operational-investigative group was attacked during a search in a case involving an FSB-planned terrorist act against a Russian opposition figure in Kyiv. The SBU's Alpha special unit opened fire on the attackers, some of whom were wounded before being detained. The SBU later said the detained individuals belonged to a unit of Ukraine's Defense Forces.
