Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative
The Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) is a program of the United States Department of Defense established in 2017 to provide security assistance to Ukraine. Unlike the Ukraine Military Assistance Program, which draws weapons from existing U.S. military stocks, USAI funds the procurement of weapons and equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine directly from manufacturers. The program is administered by the Pentagon, with its funding appropriated annually by the U.S. Congress.

Trump administration moves to spend nearly all of $400 million Ukraine military aid, but no Patriot missiles included
The Trump administration has taken legal obligations to spend nearly all of the $400 million in military aid to Ukraine that Congress approved at the end of 2025. As of the beginning of the week, $307 million had already been contracted, with the remaining $93 million to be locked in before the US fiscal year ends on September 30. The package, funded under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), does not include Patriot interceptors despite ongoing Russian drone and ballistic strikes on Ukrainian cities.
