Azov military group
The Azov military grouping was formed in Ukraine in 2014 around the Azov Battalion, which was then part of the State Border Guard Service. Shortly before Russia’s full-scale invasion, it was incorporated into the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a separate brigade-sized unit. It later formed the core of a National Guard brigade and defended Mariupol.
