United States Congress
The United States Congress is the bicameral legislature of the federal government of the United States, consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate, the upper chamber, represents the states equally with two senators each and has exclusive responsibility for ratifying treaties and confirming senior federal appointments. The House of Representatives, the lower chamber, is apportioned according to state population and holds sole power to initiate revenue bills and impeachment proceedings. Together the two chambers enact federal legislation, approve the federal budget, and provide oversight of the executive branch.
