U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is the financial intelligence and enforcement agency within the U.S. Department of the Treasury responsible for administering and enforcing economic and trade sanctions. It maintains and publishes lists of sanctioned individuals, entities, and jurisdictions, and issues licenses authorizing transactions otherwise prohibited by those sanctions. OFAC implements sanctions through presidential executive orders, congressional statutes, and, where the United States acts on them, United Nations Security Council resolutions.
