U.S. National Security Council
The United States National Security Council (NSC) is the President's principal forum for coordinating national security policy across the federal agencies. Chaired by the President, its statutory members include the Vice President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with the National Security Advisor heading the NSC staff. Established by the National Security Act of 1947, it convenes to advise the President on matters of foreign policy, defense, and homeland security.
