The United States Army is the land warfare branch of the United States Armed Forces and the oldest of its service branches. It is administered by the Department of the Army and headed by the Chief of Staff of the Army. Its primary mission is to conduct ground combat operations, and it also supports civilian authorities during disasters and emergencies.

Ukraine reports Starlink connectivity loss for military drones; Zelensky calls it a "planned special operation"
On 14 October, Ukrainian military drones equipped with Starlink terminals lost connectivity, with the slowdown lasting roughly a day and effects lingering into 17 October. The incident occurred while US President Donald Trump was threatening to halt intelligence sharing over Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking in Brussels on 17 October, said connectivity had not fully recovered and described the episode as a "planned special operation." Both Trump and SpaceX owner Elon Musk denied involvement in any throttling.

NATO to hold annual Steadfast Noon nuclear drills in Italy with 17 members
NATO announced that 17 member states will take part in the annual Steadfast Noon nuclear exercises in Italy from 13 to 23 October. The alliance is simultaneously seeking to reassure Russia that the drills are routine, predictable and not a cause for concern, against a backdrop of recent Russian nuclear warnings, including over Kaliningrad, and European accusations of Russian sabotage and hybrid operations.
