On the night of September 4, 2026, Russia struck Ukraine with a Kh-31 guided aircraft missile and 121 drones, about half of them jet-powered. On September 4, a Russian drone struck a public transport stop and a marshrutka (route taxi) in the Central district of Kherson, injuring several civilians. Preliminary information from Kherson OVA head Oleksandr Prokudin indicated possible civilian deaths, with figures still being clarified. Additional Russian drone and shelling attacks across Kherson hromada, Beryslav and Darivska communities injured several other residents over the same period.

Ukraine's General Staff announced on 4 September 2026 that two large Russian oil refining facilities — LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, and the NOVATEK-Ust-Luga complex in Slobidka, Leningrad Oblast — have stopped operating after being hit by Ukrainian strikes. The LUKOIL plant was struck on 26 August, and the NOVATEK complex on 1 September, with damage to pipelines, processing units and hydrocracking columns reported at the latter.
