3rd Separate Assault Brigade
The Third Assault Brigade is a formation of Ukraine's Armed Forces, established in 2023 on the basis of the volunteer unit formerly known as the Azov movement. It has been deployed in fighting in eastern Ukraine, particularly in the Donetsk region, including operations around Toretsk. The brigade operates as part of Ukraine's Ground Forces and is staffed largely by volunteers and contract recruits. Its commander Andriy Biletsky is a controversial public figure associated with far-right movements in Ukraine prior to Russia's full-scale invasion, after which he returned to frontline service.
